Alibest Maiyaki Distributes 5000 Condoms to Mark His Birthday

As part of efforts to prevent the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) infections and reverse the spread of the disease in the country, Comrade Alibest Maiyaki, a known Hiv/Aids advocate has encouraged youths in Lokoja to avoid engaging in risky behavior that exposes them to the deadly disease.

Alibest gave this message at the top of Mount Patti where his friends organized a solidarity match to mark his birthday.

He said: “The show of affection is enormous, and as youths we must use every opportunity we get to discuss healthy living and show love responsibly, and by so doing we can halt and reverse the spread of HIV in the country.

Alibest said: “Beyond the sweet words and the presentation of gifts, it is important that young people in particular are equipped with all the information they need about HIV/AIDS. We must learn to show love to those we care about in a safe and responsible manner. As i celebrate today, i am using this opportunity to once again  remind my friends that  safe sex is not just about protecting ourselves, but also protecting those we love.”

He added: “This is a special day for me. In the process of celebrating, i urge us to love carefully, play safe and be faithful to your partner. If you are young and not sexually active yet, abstaining from sex will keep you safe from sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, otherwise protect yourself by using a condom at all times.

“Above all, you should know your HIV status. If you do happen to carry the virus, you can get treatment that will keep you healthy and stop you from spreading the virus to your loved one. So get a HIV test today and stay safe.

Comr. Alibest noted that condom plays an important role in the control of the spread of HIV/AIDS adding that he uses every opportunity he gets to distribute condom to young people as a way of encouraging safe sex and reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

He however observed that he is not preaching sex but trying to let people know that abstinence is the most effective way of preventing HIV/AIDS, but condom is the most realistic way to prevent HIV.

While stating that prevention is key, he said “I am being realistic in the face of rising sexual activities amongst young people.”

Suicides and The Society

The problem about suicide is that one makes a permanent, irreversible, irrevocable treatment of a temporary problem, but still it is becoming a trend in Nigeria. When one is suicidal, they just want to be out of their current situation or their miserable lives, and they see death as the escape route!

The annoying situation after someone has taken their own life is the speculations people make about why he did it and why she did it. Suicide isn’t that straightforward, it is complex. You do not know the conscience of a dead person so you cannot assume they did it because of this or that.

About the civil servant who committed suicide in Kogi, it was reported he was owed 11months salary and people are now speculating that because of that, he committed suicides barely 10days after his wife of 17years gave birth to a set of male triplets (which should be something of great joy, considering the circumstances).

Reports also has it that he sold his properties amounting to millions due to hardships…. Anyway let me spare you the details. But my point is, the whole thing is not adding up. I refuse to believe he committed suicide because of unpaid salary arrears. The man left suicide note, and he was very vague, didn’t imply it was because of hardship or whatever specifically.

I also understand people are looking for anything to criticize the Kogi state government, and will easily join the bandwagon of “he committed suicide over unpaid salaries” without necessarily examining the facts.

When you take your life immediately after a crisis, everyone attributes your suicide to that one incident notwithstanding the fact that you could have been plotting your own death months prior to the crisis that pushed you over the edge. But nah, society has a very narrow understanding of depression.

This few days I’ve been hearing a lot of things about suicide and most of the people that speak about it don’t seem concerned at all, some of them even go as far as saying ; “those that attempt suicide are just cowards, attention seeking and selfish.”

The Black society can’t and will probably never understand mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. So no, talking to someone in the black family will not help. Trust me. Have you seen how black families treat kids who’ve survived a suicide attempt?

Let me tell you what happens after you attempt suicide and fail. First, you wake up in a hospital confused, disoriented and nauseas with a pipe in your penis. After clearing your mind and realising you’re still alive and in a hospital instead of heaven or hell, you note your immediate family all staring at you and happy to see you awake.

Then the casual talk starts and you assure everyone you’re okay and they leave. After that, your vitals are checked and you’re monitored for a few days and off you go – home. The one place where everyone can be honest. You get home and everyone assumes “he/she’s okay now,” bare in mind only your physical wellbeing was monitored in hospital, you’re still a mental-wreck. But nah, because mental-illness ain’t a thing in black society, once you’re out of hospital your suicide attempt is swept under the rug for some time – only till some people come over for intervention, normally elders or pastors. This is usually the period where your family gets sick and tired of your attention seeking stunts and you’re told the truth, the bitter truth.

All this when you’re still an emotional wreck, your family literally pushes you back into the pit that you’re not really sure you want to live. So what do you do? You suffer in silence because you understand that any talk of suicide will unleash words such as “next time, I’ll personally deal with you.”

So what do you do? You withdraw into yourself, you suffer alone. You’re back to square one. You’re back to plotting your own death but this time you fear something, no not death, failing. You fear failing to kill yourself once again over your prospective death. You find that your own escape (death) has now been turned into an instrument to torment you.

So tell me, how “speak to someone”, have actually spoken to someone? In reality it’s not that easy, just speaking to someone will not entirely help, it’s like drinking Aspirin for HIV/AIDS.

Depression is a serious mental illness that needs medical attention, the only way you can help a depressed friend is by telling someone. You, good friend, are not emotionally and mentally equipped to deal with a suicidal subject. So, when a friend of yours is suicidal, call the helpline for them and yourself instead of just passing the number along and thinking you’ve played your part.

So unless you’ve been in a suicide victims shoe or been suicidal, stop speculating… Mental illnesses are complex because the human brain and psyche are complex too. You might say you’d never kill yourself today and kill yourself the next day. No one gets born knowing they’ll kill themselves one-day, it all happens so fast.

Remember, when it comes to suicide, you never really know who is ‘playing’ or who will actually do it. So take every suicide joke serious, those are the signs. No one wakes up and decides enough is enough, I’m taking my life today. Victims plan their death for days, months or even years all the while leaving clues in the form of cries of help but we miss them or ignore them and when they’ve taken their own life’s we claim they are selfish.

Why We Dumped Tagbo Umeike's Body - Davido's Men Confess

The last has not been heard of the controversy surrounding the death of Tagbo Umeike , friend to Nigerian pop star David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, as the other suspects who were detained by the police have given an insight into what actually happened the night Tagbo died.

Reports credited to the Lagos State Police Command had revealed that Tagbo had a night of heavy drinking and allegedly consumed about 40 shots of Tequila, a strong alcoholic beverage. He was alleged to be in company of his friends, including Davido, before his body was abandoned at Lagos Island General Hospital in the early hours of October 3.

The news of his death was made known to the public following the outcry of Umeike’s girlfriend, Nollywood actress Caroline Danjuma, who accused Davido of abandoning his friend. That outburst led to the arrest and interrogation of Davido and three other suspects by the police. While the other three suspects are still being detained in police custody, Davido was released unconditionally.

According to a police source, there was no need to detain Davido as all the evidence gathered in the cause of interrogation and investigation exonerated him. “Tagbo is an adult and was not forced to consume that quantity of alcohol that is dangerous to his health. He had nothing to do with his death, rather investigation revealed that he was even more concerned about the safety of the deceased while he was still alive”, the source stated, pointing to a dead end in efforts to bring charges against the music star over the controversial death of his friend.

Why we dumped Tagbo’s body

Meanwhile some of the suspects who were detained after interrogation at the Police State Criminal Investigation Department , Panti have told the police that they dumped Tagbo’s body and fled the hospital when the doctor on duty confirmed that he was dead for fear of being treated as suspects. Some of the suspects who are in custody are Davido’s police security detail, Tunde Yussuf , as well as his friends Busari Idris and Agbeja Olaoye all of who completely exonerated Davido.

According to Yussuf, who is a spy policeman , he was posted to work for Davido as part of his security details. He said that on the day of the unfortunate incident, they had gone to a party with the pop star at a club known as Shasha Room where they met Tagbo already drunk. 

After spending some time, they moved to Oniru beach where Fuji music star Wasiu Ayinde was to perform at a birthday party that night.

According to him, they expected Tagbo to go home since he was already drunk but was surprised that he followed them to that place too. Moments later, one of Davido’s boys informed them that Tagbo was not okay.

He said Davido then requested that they should take one of his Hilux vehicles and follow those taking Tagbo to the hospital. As soon as they got there, the boys who took Tagbo to the hospital rushed in to call the police. “He was still in the car when the doctor came out and checked him and then said that he is dead. Moments later, the boys came out and told me that it was time to get out of the hospital.”

The second suspect Olaoye who was in the car with Tagbo before he died told the police that he fled when the doctor confirmed him dead to avoid being treated as his killer.

According to him, Tagbo was at the party long before Davido arrived and there was so much free drinks. “He demanded for a drink known as tequila and probably to show that he can consume a lot and still stay sane, took several shots of the drink.

As at the time Davido wanted to leave the party for another one, Tagbo was already drunk and violent. Davido who was concerned about his plight offered to carry him in his car but was advised against it because he was drunk and misbehaving. They advised him to go home but he insisted that he was going to the beach party with them. He then joined their car which was part of the convoy . It was while they were there that he started screaming and gasping for breath.” 

At that point, he said they contacted Davido through the boys who were around him and they were told that Davido asked that he should be taken to the hospital immediately. On their way, he also noticed that one of Davido’s security men followed them to the hospital.

Olaoye insists that Tagbo was still breathing when they arrived at the hospital. They ran into the hospital requesting that there was an emergency, unfortunately by the time the doctor arrived, Tagbo had died.

They were then asked to fill a from to enable the hospital prepare his death certificate. They were able to get his international passport to get his correct name and age.

“The doctor then said that people in-charge of such case were coming and that we should wait and meet them before the corpse can be kept in the mortuary.”

Olaoye knew that they were referring to the police, so they all decided to run away from the hospital. They quickly jumped into the Hillux driven by Davido’s security detail and left the hospital. They also tried calling Davido to let him know the outcome of their trip to the hospital but his phones were switched off. Everyone of them retired to their various houses with the hope that by the next day they would help trace Tagbo’s family members. 

Insisting that they are all innocent , Olaoye told the police that they ran away that night because in Nigeria, “even if it is clear that you had nothing to do with the death of someone, as long as you were at the scene, they will lock you up and accuse you of murder.”

Busari Idris who was also in the car on the day of the unfortunate incident also confirmed Olaoye’s statement. He said that they only knew his details from the international passport found in his wallet.

According to him, Tagbo was gasping for breath and screaming that his stomach was burning. He said they had no choice but to rush him to the hospital, adding that he was still breathing when they got to the hospital but lost him before the doctor could come to check him that night which was around 3am the next day.

“When the doctor said that we have to wait for the police, we knew the implication, that was why we fled the scene.”

What Davido told the police

In a short statement at the police station , Davido said he knew Tagbo just like the other boys hanging around him. According to him, he was invited to attend the birthday party of a friend whom he identified as Adelewe. At about 8pm on October 2, he left his house to attend the birthday party at Shasha Room in Lekki.

He was seated at another table with other friends while Tagbo and several others were behind them drinking and making noise. He only observed that Tagbo was consumming so much Tequila while the boys with him on the table were cheering him.

An hour later, he said he stood up and moved down to his car. He was heading to G12 at Oniru beach to attend another event, where Wasiu Ayinde was to perform.

He stated that almost all his boys and fans followed him to the car park including Tagbo who was drunk and unstable.

According to him, he was worried and tried to persuade him to enter his car but because he was misbehaving his security details and personal assistants advised that he should not take him in his car but rather he would enter another car in his convoy.

He left the club and attended the party at Oniru beach. An hour later , he moved to another club on the Island known as DNA for another event before retiring home for the day in the early hours of October 3.

Davido told the police, that he never heard anything from him again till he was informed by his personal assistant that Tagbo had died.

Other suspects face charges

At the time of filling this report, there were indications that the police may file charges against the other three suspects being held in custody. It was also confirmed that the police may have come to a dead end in their initial plan to draw charges against Davido as well because the music star was exonerated.

Davido Absent At Tagbo Umeike’s Burial; Had A Royal Welcome In Benin

The younger brother of late Tagbo Umeike has confirmed that singer Davido was indeed absent at his brother’s funeral in Anambra state yesterday.

The young man identified as Chigbo Umeike told Punch NG that his brother was buried yesterday in the absence of Davido and his representatives.

He also used the opportunity to debunk the notion that their mother had stroke due to Tagbo’s demise.

His words:

“My brother was buried on Friday and it is so sad that we have lost someone with a big heart. However, Davido was not present at the burial neither did he send a representative but at this point, we have no comment on that.”

“I would also like to use this medium to correct the notion that my mother has stroke because she doesn’t. We saw the report online but it is not true. The burial ceremony went well. I would miss my brother a lot because he had a big heart. He was not only my brother but a lot of people’s brother as well. Through my late brother, I have made a lot of friends turned brother and despite his death, I hope to still keep these wonderful people as my brothers. My sister in the UK came down for the burial. For now, we just finished burying my brother and we would want the dust to settle”.

While his friend was being buried in Anambra, Davido was busy enjoying royal welcome in Edo state. He shared photo of himself enjoying the company of crown Prince of Edo state. The singer had a show in the state from where he is expected to travel to Sierra Leone for another concert.

Davido’s absent from the burial ceremony as his friend Tagbo reportedly buried in Anambra

It appears Tagbo Umeike a friend of Davido who died recently has been buried - Davido was said to be absent at the ceremony- This is coming after police reveal they still had three of Davido’s associates in custody. According to several sources, Tagbo Umeike; a friend of Davido who sadly died after a night of partying has been buried in his family compound in Anambra state.There was controversy surrounding Tagbo’s demise after actress Caroline Danjuma who was the deceased’s girlfriend revealed that Davido knew about Tagbo’s death hours before anyone else and he did nothing about it.After the police revealed that Tagbo died of suffocation, Davido was invited back to the police station. Afterwards, his lawyer declared that he had no case to answer.

Meanwhile, the police revealed that they have three associates of Davido in custody. Agbaje Olaoye and Idris Busari, were arrested last week Wednesday, October 11, after Davido brought them to see the Commissioner of Police in Ikeja who then ordered their arrest. They were placed in custody for abandoning Tagbo at the hospital. Davido's driver, Tunde Usutu, who was also arrested is also still in police custody.

Ruling On Muslim Using Tattoo - Islam for Muslims

Tattooing, in which the skin is pierced with a needle and a blue or other coloured dye is injected, is haraam in all forms, whether it causes pain or not, because it involves changing the creation of Allaah, and because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the one who does tattoos and the one for whom that is done.

In al-Saheehayn it is narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “May Allaah curse the women who do tattoos and those for whom tattoos are done, those who pluck their eyebrows and those who file their teeth for the purpose of beautification and alter the creation of Allaah.” (al- Bukhaari, al-Libaas, 5587; Muslim, al- Libaas, 5538). With regard to all these matters, the ahaadeeth testify that the one who does them is cursed and that they are major sins. There is some difference of scholarly opinion as to the reason why they are forbidden.

It was said that it is because they are a form of deception, and it was said that it is because it is a way of changing the creation of Allaah, as Ibn Mas’ood said – which is more correct and also includes the first meaning. And it was suggested that what is forbidden is only that which is permanent, because that is changing the creation of Allaah; as for that which is not permanent, such as kohl which used for adornment by women, that is permitted by the scholars. (Tafseer al-Qurtubi, 5/393).

Music Legend, 2baba Idibia, has spoken on the controversies surrounding the death of singer, Davido’s frends; DJ Olu, Chime Amechina and Tagbo Umeike.

The afro-pop legend sat down with The Net NG, and was asked about the incident.. 2face didn’t fail to blame Davido’s friendly attitude for the incident.

According to him, Davido’s jolly attitude landed him in such circumstance.

He, however, advised Davido not to change his personality despite criticisms, adding that he should be more careful henceforth.

Comedian Ralphie died @ 45

Comedian Ralphie May died after suffering cardiac arrest on Friday in Las Vegas, his manager and publicist confirmed to Variety. He was 45.

“We are heartbroken to announce the untimely death of our friend, Ralphie May,” his rep said in a statement. “Ralphie had been battling pneumonia and had cancelled a handful of dates over the last month in an effort to recover.
