JAMB Has Finanly Extends 2018/2019 UTME Registration

he Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announces the extension of registration for 2018 UTME till midnight of Sunday, 11th February, 2018.

JAMB as a responsive organisation has taken the decision albeit with great hesitation to accommodate candidates who failed to register between the two months window period that ended at midnight of Tuesday, 6th February, 2018.

The failure of these candidates to register is unfortunate and the Board hastens to add that this culture of impunity will not be tolerated henceforth. Indeed penalty will be imposed for late registration from next session.

UTME candidates are therefore strongly advised to take advantage of the extension to register as request for further extension would not be entertained.

Registration for Direct Entry candidates however continues.

For emphasis, 2018 UTME registration now closes at midnight of Sunday, 11th February, 2018.

Strike Saga: Doctors’ Strike Paralyses Activities in Kogi Hospital

Medical activities were on Tuesday suspended at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital (KSSH) on following the industrial action embarked upon by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) and the Joint Action Committee (JAC).
The strike, according to a source in the union, became necessary following the failure on the part of the Kogi State Government to pay resident doctors their salaries and arrears.
“It is quite unfortunate that we are experiencing this situation in the health sector today. All our demands to the state governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello have been swept under the carpet.
“Many of our colleagues have not been paid for several months. We find it difficult to come to the hospital and treat patients because we are psychologically and morally down.
“I can no longer fuel my car. I now patronize commercial vehicles while going to work. For how long are we going to continue with this hardship?
“I wont be surprise if our dear governor comes out to categorise us as ‘Political Doctors’ because of this strike just the way he called striking civil servants in the state as Political Civil Servants.
“Our demands are simple. He should pay us our salaries and arrears and see if we wont return to the hospital. Just the other day, a colleague of mine borrowed N100 so that she could come to work. After closing hour, she was looking for who to give her transport fare. Can you imagine the condition doctors have now found themselves in Kogi State?”, the source explained.
Meanwhile, when our correspondent visited the Kogi State Specialist Hospital Lokoja, it was deduced that the hospital was almost deserted.
The usual car park in the hospital premises was almost empty.
In a visit to some of the wards, such as the accident and emergency wards, Male wards, children wards, few patients were spotted as no doctor was on ground to attend to them.
The strike has forced many patients to be transferred to private hospitals within the state capital.

“We have solid mineral deposits such as coal, crude oil and good arable land that can be used for the sustenance of our state if created.
“Our sons and daughters are flying the Nigeria dreams both on economic and political fronts. Workers’ Strike: Stop Using Divide And Rule, Labour Chides Kogi Govt

The organized Labour in Kogi State has called on the state government to desist from using divide and rule tactic as a way out of the current industrial dispute with it.
The call  was made on Thursday in Lokoja in a statement circulated among media houses by the leaderships of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union a Congress ( TUC) and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council ( JPSNC),
According to the statement, the disparity in the months of salary arrears being owed workers in the state is one of such tactics.
The statement signed Mr Olakunle Faniyi, Secretary, NLC; Mr Kolawole James, Secretary, TUC and Mr Isah Abubakar, Secretary, JPSNC also accused government of planning to pay two month salary arrears to workers to blackmail them  back to work.
They called on the government to meet all their demands or call a meeting of stakeholders to chart a way forward.
It would be recalled that the workers had on Sept. 22 embarked on an indefinite strike to press  home their demands for the payment of their salary arrears, leave bonus arrears and cash backing for promotions among others.
“Threats, intimidation, blackmail, denials and pretense are all out of fashion. Government must act now and not make Kogi State a laughing stock among comity of states in Nigeria, “ the statement said.
It also urged the government to rescind its plan of retiring 230 directors that have less than five years to retire but the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mrs Petra Akinti–Onyegbule described the labour’s claim as incorrect.
The statement further queried the rationale behind government decision to retain its  over 300 political appointees when at a time it is finding it difficult to pay workers salary.

Alarm Over Late Flooding In Kogi, Other States

Stakeholders in disaster management have called for vigilance and caution against what they called black flood in Kogi and other adjoining states towards the end of the year, noting that the water level in Lokoja is still high.
States that faces this risk include states along the river Niger axis such as Kogi, Abia, Anambra, Rivers, Niger, Kebbi and Bayelsa.

Ynaija Ranking: Yahaya Bello Remains a Disgrace to Governance

Aside from being the youngest governor currently in the country, Yahaya Bello of Kogi has really nothing else going for him.
Bello became governor due to the untimely demise of Audu Abubakar hours before the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him (Abubakar) as Governor-elect.
Bello, who accused labour unions in the state of “blackmail” and a “campaign of calumny” against his administration said the workers were being paid by “some desperate politicians who are playing politics with the destiny of the people of Kogi.”
Concluding his position on the matter, the governor said the non-payment of salaries was not peculiar to the state, adding that he will “be decisive if they (labour unions) remain adamant and continue to go violent on workers who do not believe in their agitation”.
Like Bello, some other state governors, who have no modicum of shame requested that the Federal Government should release additional bailout funds to them for the payment of salary arrears to workers in their states.
Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi is showing signs that he cannot maintain law and order in the state. Following his elevation of some chiefs in Ibadan to the status of traditional rulers – a position the Olubadan of Ibada, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji disagrees with – some yet to be identified gunmen attacked the Oba’s palace.
Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal in his wisdom decided that five persons indicted for mismanagement of funds totalling N15 Billion under the immediate administration of former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa, be awarded several positions in his cabinet ranging from commissioner to board appointments.
