Former minister of police affairs, Mallam Maina Maziri, called on party supporters to work hard for the task ahead. Two former ministers have declared that it will not be easy for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to reclaim power in 2019. The former ministers who served in the Peoples Democratic Party-controlled federal government, are former minister of police affairs, Mallam Maina Maziri, and former minister of women affairs, Hajia Zainab Maina. The duo spoke at the official declaration by Prof. Tunde Adeniran to join the race for the national chairmanship election slated for December 9 in Abuja. According to them, for the party to return to power and regain the confidence of Nigerians again, they said its next crop of national officers must be men and women of proven integrity. Maina said: “Don’t be deceived. It is not easy to reclaim Aso Villa in 2019”. He called on party supporters to work industriously for the task ahead “because the government in power would not relinquish power easily.” The former women affairs minister on her part said: “The PDP needs to get it right with the next national convention. We must reject imposition in whatever guise. “The road to power in 2019 could be very fierce and tedious. We need fighters who will not give up easily. We need people of honour and integrity to lead us.” Meanwhile earlier report  was that the 2019 presidential ambition of Governor Ayodele Fayose has hit the rocks even before it began as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he hopes to achieve this feat, has asked him not to waste his time. The party informed him the slot for the presidency had been zoned to the northern part of Nigeria adding that all its members were aware of this. The national publicity secretary of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who expressed shock at Fayose’s, urged the governor to respect the decisions taken by the party on zoning.
