The Kogi Integrity Group (KIG) has condemned Senator Dino Melaye for displaying what it called ill-gotten wealth on pages of newspaper and social media, describing him as the worst disaster that ever happened to the people of Kogi West.
The senator, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, was accused of poor representation of the constituency at the Senate, and he is facing a recall by his constituents who in a petition on June 23, 2017, called on INEC to recall him.
The President of the group, Barr. Zaccheaus Dare Michael, in a statement on Tuesday in Lokoja, said Melaye’s childish act of displaying numerous exotic cars on the social media was disgraceful, while his constituents were being carried away by floods.
“The people of Kogi west senatorial district have never had it bad like this in the upper chamber. We regretted bitterly to have allowed a character like Melaye to represent us even though we never voted for him, but he eventually got there through the backyard with dollars.
“Melaye public show of shame of his ill-gotten exotic cars while his constituents are being ravaged with poverty is an embarrassment to the good people Kogi west, just as the rest of the world may be thinking that we are not matured as a people.
“We doubt if the anti graft agencies are even doing their work, because a character like Dino Melaye needs to be thoroughly investigated. This is a man we all know he has no other career than politics; he has never worked anywhere or engaged in any business venture in his life.
“For him to be showing those kind of wealth and the anti graft agencies are watching him rather than beaming their searchlight on him and his activities, it calls for a great concern.
“We urge the concern authorities to wake up to their responsibilities by doing the needful because at the long run, it is the innocent good of Kogi west that is worst hit.
“A senator who can display such enormous wealth on social media and newpaper pages with reckless and unguarded statement, and cannot identify with his constituents being ravaged by flood, neither is there any program from him for widows nor scholarships for the indigent students.
“While other senators in other states are busy empowering their constituents through various life transforming programmes and projects, and giving scholarships to the less privileged children, our own vision-less senator from Kogi west is busy displaying his ill-gotten wealth on social media.
“A senator from Osun west senatorial district of Osun State, Dr Ademola Adeleke, will on Wednesday 11th October, 2017, make presentation of N250 million scholarships to indigent undergraduate students in his constituency. This is a senator that has just spent few months in the red chamber.
“All federal roads in Kogi west are in deplorable conditions especially Iyara-Iyamoye-Ekinrinade-Ekiti road, Kabba-Aiyetoro-Mopamuro-Isanlu road among others.
“We appreciate the singular effort of Hon Taofik Isa, the Administrator of Ijumu LGA, who called the attention of the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to a very bad portion of the road at Egbeda Ejiga, who immediately mobilized construction companies to salvage that portion of the road during the holiday and put it in a proper shape.
“But our so called senator is in Abuja displaying his ill-gotten wealth, and purportedly receiving a fake and self-arranged award from vision-less and poverty ridden group of jobless individual to get money from the embattled senator.
“We see the alleged fake award as erroneous and a misplaced priority because a character like Dino Melaye does not deserve any form of award, except an award of ‘the most nuisance and public disgrace senator of the year’.
“We are using this opportunity to sound a serious warning to jobless and hungry groups and individuals who are seeking what to eat, and derive pleasure in giving undeserved honors, titles and awards to personalities, politicians, government officials etc, who do not in anyway or ramification qualify for such award.
“We are bold to say that every award that has been given to Mr Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district in the past two years is a misplaced priority.
“We now know better than before, and the entire people of Kogi west are watching because this will be Melaye’s last political opportunity in Kogi west and the entire Kogi at large.
“We hereby urge INEC not to be deterred or frustrated by pranks being exhibited by Melaye to evade justice in an attempt to scuttle the will of the people of Kogi west to recall him. Our mind are made up; we are resolute in our decision to recall the erring senator,” Zacchaeus reiterated.
